The Truth About Love Tour - Live from Melbourne (Album)

"Time After Time" is a song by American singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper, released as the second single from her debut album She's So Unusual. Written by Lauper and Rob Hyman, who also sings background vocals, and produced by Rick Chertoff, the song was released as the album's second single, on January 27, 1984. The song was a success on the charts, becoming her first number-one single on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart on June 9, 1984, and remained there for two weeks. [1]

P!nk performed an acoustic cover of "Time After Time" on The Truth About Love Tour in support of her sixth studio album. It was not added to the regular setlist for the tour until June 25, and therefore was only included on the Australian leg of the tour and later North American tour dates. "Time After Time" is one of three covers performed on The Truth About Love Tour, the other two being Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game", which was included throughout the entire tour, and James Taylor's "Fire and Rain", which was performed on select dates.

P!nk covered "Time After Time" live for the first time on Cyndi Lauper's benefit show Home for the Holidays. [2] Being that it was also performed on the Australian leg of The Truth About Love Tour, it was included on The Truth About Love Tour: Live from Melbourne, the concert film released following the tour's conclusion.

Speaking about the song during The Truth About Love Tour: Live from Melbourne concert DVD, P!nk said:

I've been told by a friend of mine with a three-year-old that this song is full of mom words, which is a huge compliment because being a mom is the coolest thing I've ever done. But it's also kind of a complete diss. That kind of means I'm lame. Am I right? [3]

She also admitted to the audience that she wrote the lyrics down and had them with her while performing the song out of fear that she would forget them. [4]

Lyrics[]

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles confusion -
Is nothing new
Flashback - warm nights -
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after -

Sometimes you picture me -
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said -
Then you say - go slow -
I fall behind -
The second hand unwinds

If you're lost you can look - and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you - I'll be waiting
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows - you're wondering
If I'm OK
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time -

If you're lost...

You said go slow -
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds -

If you're lost you can look - and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you - I'll be waiting
Time after time

Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
