"Run" is a song recorded by P!nk for the deluxe edition of her sixth studio album, The Truth About Love. It was written by P!nk, Butch Walker, and Jake Sinclair, and produced by Walker. The song was written for P!nk's daughter, Willow. Some have thought of the song as a sequel to P!nk's 2010 ballad "F**kin' Perfect", which was written for her husband Carey. "Run" serves as the album's third bonus track and sixteenth overall track.
Background[]
"Run" was written for P!nk's daughter, Willow. Speaking about the song to VH1 for her Behind the Music special, P!nk said:
“ | I want [Willow] to wave her freak flag and... I don't wanna be authoritative and stomp on her spirit and make her fall in line. That's not what I want. I want her to be herself. [1] | ” |
Despite speculation that Lily Allen was featured on the track[2], according to the booklet for the deluxe edition of The Truth About Love, the childlike vocals featured in between the bridge and final choruses belong to Boyce Buchanan.[3] Despite this, she is not credited as a featured artist.
During a live chat on the day of the album's release, P!nk was also asked who is featured at the end of "Run", to which she replied, "A little girl! [Laughs] We found a really young girl—Butch did actually—to sing on that, and I actually wasn't there when she sang it because I can't handle it. I can't handle little girls anymore, I'm too emotional, and I would've been crying and she would've been uncomfortable. So I wasn't allowed to go to that."[4]
Live performances[]
"Run" was not included in the setlist of The Truth About Love Tour; however, P!nk did sing part of it acapella in an interview with VH1.
